All about Anise

Taste

Organic anise brings you lilting, luscious tones of licorice. Much like fennel in flavor, the seeds are smaller – chew on anise seeds, and they release a complex spicy sweetness.

Country of Origin
Egypt, Turkey
Food Complements
Beets, Cabbage, Carrots, Chicken, Fish, Sweet potatoes
Flavor Complements
allspice, cardamom, cinnamon, clove, cumin, fennel, garlic, nutmeg, pepper
Optimum Freshness

whole - up to 2 years

ground - up to 6 months

Storage
To maximize freshness, store in a dark airtight container in a cool dry place. Once the spice is ground, flavor deteriorates with exposure to light, heat, air, humidity and time.
Refills
Refills arrive in air-tight plastic bags. Simply snip a corner of your bag, refill your Smith & Truslow jar, apply the new label and recycle the bag.
Cuisines

German - Anise seed is found in German baked favorites – anisbrod (anise bread or anise cakes), and springerle. Also in the flavored aperatif, Ouzo.

Italian - A frequent ingredient in Italian biscotti, or the Italian liqueur, Sambuca.

Mediterranean - In Egyptian cuisine, anise can be one of the ingredients used in dakkah, a multi-spice blend. And again, you'll find anise seed in anise cookies (anise biscuits, or biscotti)..
