Apple Crisp

Apple crisp, apple crunch, apple crumble… whatever you grew up calling it, the aroma of cinnamon wafts from this classic Fall dessert with melt-in-your-mouth sweet baked apples and a crunchy topping of brown sugar and oats. Chock full of steaming honey crisp apples, it warms you to the core after a crisp day out picking in the orchards.

Instructions

  • 1.Preheat oven to 375°.
  • 2.Grease an 8"x8" baking dish.
  • 3.Peel, core and slice apples into twelfths. (If you prefer to keep the skin on, that works too.)
  • 4.Add apple slices to a mixing bowl, along with lemon juice.
  • 5.Add granulated sugar, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, and stir to combine.
  • 6.In a separate bowl, combine ingredients for topping – brown sugar, oats, flour, 2 teaspoons cinnamon, salt and diced cold butter. (Do no overwork.)
  • 7.Layer apples into baking dish. Spread topping evenly over apples. Gently pat to level out the topping.
  • 8.Bake for 45 minutes, until bubbling and golden brown.
  • 9.Let sit for 5 minutes. Serve warm, either straight up or with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

  • 6-7 Honey Crisp apples
  • 2 Tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 3 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1-1/2 teaspoons lemon juice
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 3/4 cup old fashioned oats
  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cold butter, diced into small cubes
  • pinch of sea salt
  • Note: Apple Pie Spice can be substituted for the cinnamon if you're craving cinnamon, but more!
