Smith & Truslow Organic Sweet Potato Seasoning is USDA certified organic, freshly blended in small batches, and third-party tested for heavy metals โ€” delivering the warm, sweet, deeply aromatic combination of nutmeg, cassia cinnamon, allspice, and cardamom balanced with sea salt that makes this blend the most perfectly calibrated, most versatile, and most genuinely satisfying seasoning for sweet potatoes, winter squash, and warm spiced preparations in every serious cook's collection.

Our organic sweet potato seasoning is a carefully crafted blend of five certified organic ingredients โ€” each one individually sourced and blended in precisely calibrated proportions to deliver a flavor profile that is simultaneously warming and sweet, complex and approachable, with the rich cinnamon backbone, the subtle floral brightness of cardamom, the deep complexity of allspice, the warm woody depth of nutmeg, and the clean mineral anchor of sea salt that ties every element together into a harmonious whole. Whether you're seasoning a classic Thanksgiving sweet potato casserole, roasting sweet potato wedges for a weeknight side dish, building a sweet potato soup, seasoning a spiced sweet potato pie, flavoring a sweet potato mash, building a warming sweet potato smoothie, seasoning a butternut squash preparation, creating a spiced sweet potato bread or muffin, or simply reaching for the one blend that makes sweet potatoes taste like the extraordinary, deeply satisfying ingredient they truly are, Smith & Truslow Organic Sweet Potato Seasoning delivers a warmth, depth, and aromatic sophistication that grocery store sweet potato seasonings simply cannot match.

Why Sweet Potatoes Deserve Their Own Dedicated Seasoning

Sweet potatoes are one of the most nutritionally dense, most versatile, and most genuinely delicious vegetables in the American kitchen โ€” and yet they are among the most consistently underseasoned and underutilized ingredients in everyday cooking. The problem is not the sweet potato โ€” it is the lack of a calibrated seasoning blend designed specifically to complement the sweet potato's unique flavor profile. Sweet potatoes have a natural sweetness, an earthy warmth, and a slightly caramelized richness when roasted that calls for a very specific combination of complementary flavors โ€” warming spices that amplify rather than overwhelm the natural sweetness, floral notes that add complexity without competing, and the grounding mineral presence of salt that brings every element into focus and makes the sweet potato taste more like itself. Generic cinnamon sugar doesn't deliver this complexity. Pumpkin pie spice comes close but is calibrated for custard-based fillings rather than the roasted, caramelized, savory-sweet applications that make sweet potatoes so versatile. Smith & Truslow Organic Sweet Potato Seasoning is calibrated specifically for the sweet potato โ€” a blend designed to make this extraordinary vegetable taste like the genuinely sophisticated ingredient it is rather than merely a vehicle for butter and brown sugar.

The Five Ingredients of Smith & Truslow Organic Sweet Potato Seasoning โ€” Why Each One Is Essential

Understanding what each of the five ingredients in Smith & Truslow Organic Sweet Potato Seasoning contributes reveals why this specific combination is so perfectly suited to sweet potatoes and the full range of winter squash and warm spiced preparations. Cassia cinnamon is the backbone of the blend โ€” its bold, sweet, intensely warm character amplifies the natural sweetness of sweet potatoes and contributes the characteristic warm spice note that makes sweet potato preparations so deeply comforting and satisfying. Nutmeg adds warm, slightly sweet, woody depth that rounds out cinnamon's sweetness and contributes the background richness that makes a great sweet potato preparation feel complete โ€” the spice that makes you taste something and immediately think autumn and harvest without being able to identify it specifically. Allspice adds the most complex aromatic element in the blend โ€” its unique combination of clove-like, cinnamon-sweet, and peppery warmth adds a depth and layering that prevents the blend from becoming merely sweet or one-dimensional, contributing the savory complexity that makes this seasoning work as well in roasted preparations as in dessert applications. Cardamom adds the clean, floral, slightly minty brightness that lifts the entire blend โ€” the unexpected element that makes this seasoning genuinely sophisticated rather than merely warm, adding a dimension of aromatic elegance that distinguishes it from every other sweet potato preparation most people have tasted. Sea salt anchors the entire blend โ€” balancing the warmth of the spices, amplifying the natural sweetness of the sweet potato, and making every other element of the blend more vivid and more present.

Sweet Potato Seasoning vs Pumpkin Pie Spice โ€” Why They Are Different and Why Both Matter

Smith & Truslow Organic Sweet Potato Seasoning and pumpkin pie spice are frequently compared โ€” both are warm spice blends built around cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice โ€” but they are meaningfully different preparations designed for different applications and delivering different results. Pumpkin pie spice is calibrated for custard-based dessert fillings โ€” the rich, egg-and-cream preparations of pie, cheesecake, and pudding where the spice blend is suspended in fat and dairy and needs to deliver its warmth within a sweet, rich context. It typically excludes salt and cardamom โ€” ingredients that shift the flavor profile toward a more sophisticated, more versatile preparation. Smith & Truslow Organic Sweet Potato Seasoning includes both salt and cardamom โ€” salt because it is essential for savory roasting applications and for amplifying flavor in any preparation, and cardamom because its floral brightness adds the aromatic sophistication that makes this blend genuinely versatile across roasted, mashed, sautรฉed, and baked sweet potato preparations. The result is a blend that works beautifully in Thanksgiving sweet potato casserole โ€” where it delivers the expected warm spice character โ€” but also works equally well on roasted sweet potato wedges, in sweet potato soup, in sweet potato bread, and in the growing range of savory sweet potato preparations that have made this vegetable one of the most exciting ingredients in modern American cooking.

Why Our Organic Sweet Potato Seasoning Is Different

Most grocery store sweet potato seasonings are made from the lowest-quality commodity spices available โ€” grown with synthetic pesticides, irradiated to extend shelf life, and blended with excessive sugar and anticaking agents that deliver sweetness as a proxy for genuine spice complexity. Not ours. Every lot of Smith & Truslow Organic Sweet Potato Seasoning starts with certified organic versions of every ingredient in the blend โ€” organic cassia cinnamon, organic nutmeg, organic allspice, organic cardamom, and sea salt โ€” with nothing added. No sugar. No fillers. No anticaking agents. No irradiation. Third-party tested for heavy metals. Pure five-ingredient blend. Maximum warming complexity. Nothing hidden.

Storage and Shelf Life

Storage: To maximize freshness, store in a dark airtight container in a cool dry place. Once the spice is ground, flavor deteriorates with exposure to light, heat, air, humidity and time. Here are rules of thumb about the shelf life of spices and herbs >

NOTE: The plastic refill bags are not intended for long-term storage of your spices. Due to the porous nature of plastic, the essential oils that are released when a spice is ground, may react with the plastic and/or labelling inks over time.

Refill bags contain the same amount of spice as in our small glass jars. When they arrive, simply snip the corner of your bag, refill your original Smith & Truslow spice jar, apply the new label, and recycle the bag.
