Smith & Truslow Organic Greek Seasoning is USDA certified organic, freshly blended in small batches, and all of the ingredients are third-party tested for heavy metals β€” delivering the bright, herbaceous, citrusy Mediterranean flavor of lemon peel, garlic, oregano, marjoram, black pepper, and sea salt that makes this blend one of the most vibrant, versatile, and authentically satisfying seasonings for lamb, chicken, fish, and vegetables in the entire Mediterranean tradition.

Our organic Greek seasoning is a carefully crafted blend of six ingredients β€” each one certified organic, individually sourced, and blended in precisely calibrated proportions to deliver the clean, sun-drenched flavor profile of the Greek kitchen β€” bold oregano and marjoram, bright lemon, assertive garlic, cracked black pepper, and sea salt β€” in a single, perfectly balanced blend that captures the essential character of Greek and Mediterranean cooking in every pinch. Whether you're seasoning a leg of lamb for Easter dinner, building a classic Greek marinade for chicken souvlaki, seasoning a whole roasted fish, flavoring grilled octopus, building an authentic tzatziki marinade, dressing a classic Greek salad, seasoning roasted potatoes with lemon and herbs, or simply reaching for the one blend that instantly transports every dish to the sun-drenched shores of the Aegean, Smith & Truslow Organic Greek Seasoning delivers a freshness, brightness, and Mediterranean authenticity that grocery store Greek seasoning blends simply cannot match.

What Makes Greek Seasoning Authentically Greek

Greek seasoning is not simply a Mediterranean herb blend β€” it is a specific flavor profile built on a handful of core ingredients that have defined Greek cooking for thousands of years, and whose combination is immediately and unmistakably recognizable as the flavor of the Greek kitchen. The foundation of authentic Greek seasoning is oregano β€” not the mild, dusty oregano of grocery store jars, but genuinely aromatic, resinous Mediterranean oregano with a bold, slightly peppery, herbal intensity that is significantly stronger and more distinctive than most dried oregano sold in American supermarkets. Alongside oregano, marjoram adds a sweeter, more delicate herbal note that softens the oregano's assertiveness while deepening its complexity β€” the classic Mediterranean herb pairing that appears in the cooking of Greece, Turkey, and the entire Eastern Mediterranean. Lemon peel adds the bright citrusy acidity that is the hallmark of Greek cooking β€” present in virtually every dish from souvlaki to spanakopita to lemon potatoes β€” while garlic provides the savory depth that makes Mediterranean food so satisfying and complete. Black pepper and sea salt bring the entire blend into focus. Together these six ingredients deliver the flavor of Greece in a form that is ready to use the moment you open the jar.

Oregano and Marjoram β€” The Heart of Greek and Mediterranean Cooking

Oregano and marjoram are botanical cousins β€” both members of the Origanum genus β€” and their combination is one of the most important and most frequently occurring flavor pairings in Mediterranean cooking. Oregano is the bolder, more assertive of the two β€” with a resinous, slightly peppery, intensely herbal character that holds up beautifully through heat and is the defining flavor of pizza, pasta sauce, and Greek and Italian herb preparations. Marjoram is the more delicate, sweeter, more floral cousin β€” with a softer, more refined herbal character that adds complexity and sweetness to oregano's assertiveness without competing with it. Together they create an herb combination that is more complete and more rounded than either alone β€” oregano providing the bold herbal backbone and marjoram providing the elegant, slightly sweet counterpoint that keeps the blend from becoming harsh or one-dimensional. This combination appears in Greek souvlaki marinades, Turkish kebab seasonings, and Middle Eastern spice blends β€” a testament to its extraordinary versatility and its deep roots in the culinary traditions of the entire Eastern Mediterranean.

Greek Seasoning vs Italian Seasoning vs Herbes de Provence β€” Choosing the Right Mediterranean Blend

Mediterranean herb blends are among the most popular and widely used spice products in the American kitchen β€” but the differences between Greek seasoning, Italian seasoning, and herbes de Provence are meaningful and practically important for any cook who wants authentic flavor. Greek seasoning is built on oregano and marjoram as the primary herbs, with lemon peel and garlic as essential flavor contributors β€” delivering the bright, citrusy, herb-forward character of Greek and Eastern Mediterranean cooking. Italian seasoning combines basil, oregano, thyme, rosemary, marjoram, and sage β€” a more complex, less citrusy, more savory blend built for the tomato-based sauces, pizzas, and pasta dishes of Italian cuisine. Herbes de Provence adds lavender, fennel, and savory to a similar herb base β€” delivering a floral, aromatic, more delicate character suited to the roasted meats and grilled vegetables of southern French cooking. For Greek souvlaki, lamb, whole roasted fish, and dishes where bright lemon and bold oregano are the desired flavor, Greek seasoning is the right choice. For Italian pasta sauces and pizza, Italian seasoning is correct. For French roasted meats and grilled vegetables, herbes de Provence is the authentic choice. We carry all three so you can cook authentically from every Mediterranean tradition.

Why Our Organic Greek Seasoning Is Different

Most grocery store Greek seasoning blends are made from the low-quality commodity herbs available β€” grown with synthetic pesticides, irradiated to extend shelf life, and padded with anticaking agents, fillers, and excessive salt as the primary ingredient. Some brands label a generic Italian-style herb blend as Greek seasoning without the oregano intensity, lemon character, and garlic presence that make Greek seasoning distinctively Greek rather than generically Mediterranean. Not ours. Every lot of Smith & Truslow Organic Greek Seasoning starts with certified organic versions of every ingredient in the blend β€” organic lemon peel, organic garlic, organic oregano, organic marjoram, organic black pepper, and sea salt β€” with nothing added. No fillers. No anticaking agents. No irradiation. Third-party tested for heavy metals. Pure blend. Authentic Greek flavor. Nothing hidden.

Storage and Shelf Life

Storage: To maximize freshness, store in a dark airtight container in a cool dry place. Once the spice is ground, flavor deteriorates with exposure to light, heat, air, humidity and time. Here are rules of thumb about the shelf life of spices and herbs >

NOTE: The plastic refill bags are not intended for long-term storage of your spices. Due to the porous nature of plastic, the essential oils that are released when a spice is ground, may react with the plastic and/or labelling inks over time.

Refill bags contain the same amount of spice as in our small glass jars. When they arrive, simply snip the corner of your bag, refill your original Smith & Truslow spice jar, apply the new label, and recycle the bag.

Product Testing

Certificates of analysis (COAs) accompany our products through the supply chain. COAs identify country of origin, certifications, best by dates, and information on product testing including microbial analysis and heavy metal testing.

If you would like to review the COA for the lot we are currently selling, please send an email to:Β customerservice@smithandtruslow.com.

As we only test ingredients, but not blends, we can only provide COA's on individual spices.
