A hearty granola is always nutty! Rolled oats, wheat germ and your favorite nuts are tossed with coconut oil, honey or maple syrup, and our organic cinnamon and nutmeg, then baked low and slow until golden and crunchy. Add coconut and dried fruit, then enjoy it with yogurt, milk or by the handful. Dairy-free, and plant-based when made with maple syrup.

Crunchy Oats and Honey Granola

Ingredients

  • 6 cups rolled oats
  • 1 cup wheat germ
  • 1 to 1 1/2 cups chopped nuts (almonds, walnuts, pecans or cashews)
  • 1/2 cup coconut oil
  • 1 Tbsp organic ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 to 1/2 cup honey or maple syrup
  • 1 tsp organic ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 tsp fine sea salt
  • 1/2 to 1 cup shredded coconut (optional)
  • 1 cup raisins, dried cranberries, or dried cherries

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 300°F.
  2. In a large bowl, mix the oats, wheat germ and nuts.

  3. In a small bowl, whisk the coconut oil, honey or maple syrup, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt.

  4. Pour the wet ingredients over the dry and stir to coat. Spread evenly on two baking sheets.

  5. Bake for 30 minutes, stirring every 10 minutes. Add the coconut for the last 10 minutes.

  6. Remove from the oven and stir in the raisins or cranberries.

  7. For a darker, more toasted granola, bake 5 minutes longer. It will be soft out of the oven but crisps as it cools. For big clusters, don't stir until it's completely cool, then break it up with a spatula. Store in an airtight container.

Why use our Cinnamon Cassia?

This recipe was tested with our Cinnamon Cassia which is ...

  • Darker, reddish-brown color
  • Stronger, more intense flavor
  • Slightly sweet with a kick of heat

The commercial-grade cinnamon that you see in grocery stores differs significantly from our metal-tested, freshly-ground, small-batch version. Once you try freshly ground cinnamon, you'll never go back.
